Learning through Travel & Outdoors Education

At Anacapa School, students regularly have opportunities to take their learning outside the classroom. We encourage students to discover new passions through our active electives like hiking, surfing, beach volleyball, and rock climbing.

One of our signature offerings is an outdoors program that takes full advantage of the resources of our resplendent coastal city as well as the culturally and geologically rich regions of California, the American Southwest, and Costa Rica. The recent expansion of our outdoors program harks back to the original vision of the founding group of parents, students, and teachers as well as the frontier spirit of Anacapa’s early years. It offers a travel component for students that is supportive yet spontaneous and designed to push personal boundaries and stimulate the growth of roots and wings.

Key Offerings

With subjects like history, science, and art being revisited on our outdoor explorations and with the stories and bonding experiences that result from shared travel, campus life informs the outdoor questing, which in turn enriches the classroom experience.

This unique feature of our programming is not an add-on but a crucial component of what makes up Anacapa’s dynamism.
