Dear Anacapa Families,
We’ve raised $1,300 of our $10,000 goal, bringing us closer to unlocking the $10,000 matching challenge donation generously pledged by a current Anacapa family. Reaching this milestone means that every dollar donated up to $10,000 by December 31, 2025, will be doubled, effectively doubling your impact!
This year's Anacapa Annual Fund goal is $50,000. This matching opportunity gives us the chance to raise $20,000 towards that goal.
If you haven’t donated, please do so today by clicking on the Donate button below or sending a check to the school. Remember that every contribution—big or small—brings us closer to unlocking this match |

Castles & Connections in Review |

Castles and Connections
Our students recently returned from the Castles and Connections trip to Morro Bay and San Simeon, a week filled with learning, discovery, and community. While camping together, students took on the responsibility of cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner as a team and even shared the unique experience of eating dinner in the rain. Outdoor adventures included running on sand dunes and observing sea otters and elephant seals in their natural habitats, tying directly into their studies of ecology and trophic cascades as they examined how species are interconnected within an ecosystem.
At Hearst Castle, students explored the fascinating history and architecture of this iconic site while listening to the story of Julia Morgan, the trailblazing architect who brought William Randolph Hearst’s vision to life. They analyzed how design choices reflected both artistic and cultural influences, while also considering the mysteries and legends that surround the castle’s construction. The trip connected directly to our Mystery Unit, giving students the chance to explore real-world mysteries in history, architecture, and the environment.
Beyond the academic experiences, the trip fostered stronger connections among students as they camped, cooked, learned, and problem-solved together. It was a week where curiosity, hands-on learning, and community building came together to create memories that will last far beyond the classroom.

This week, our middle school students had the unique opportunity to hear from Etta’s mom, Alisa Brodkowitz, an attorney who represents victims of plane crashes. Alisa spoke with students about the mysteries surrounding aviation accidents and how investigators use evidence to uncover the causes and determine liability. She introduced students to the Claim, Evidence, Reasoning (CER) framework as a way to analyze real-world cases, showing how the same critical thinking skills they use in class are applied to complex legal and investigative work. Students were deeply engaged in asking questions and thinking through the challenges of solving aviation mysteries. As an extension of her visit, Alisa is guiding our students in a CER study of an unsolved case involving Air India’s B787, giving them the chance to apply their skills to a real and ongoing mystery.
The middle school is continuing its research into Ancient Mysteries, preparing to showcase its l will begin building next week. These projects will allow students to demonstrate both their historical research and their ability to present information in engaging, hands-on ways. In addition, students will launch Literature Circles with a selection of mystery novels, giving them the opportunity to practice discussion skills, deepen their literary analysis, and connect their reading to the broader themes of our Mystery Unit. |

Biology
This week in biology, we started unpacking what nutrients we take into our bodies and what functions they perform. We looked at the chemical structure of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats and examined how these can vary, as well as looking at some of the functions of vitamins in keeping our bodies healthy. We then went on a shopping trip to look at different types of food, seeing there's a link between foods that are enjoyable to eat and the nutrients that they provide. It was interesting to see the trends that students discovered in their own eating, as well as seeing common elements that they shared. |

We are pleased to share an article published in Noozhawk yesterday titled Learning that Matters: Inside Anacapa School's Holistic, Student-Centered Approach. Summer, Edie, and Mari devoted significant effort to this piece, and it highlights the unique qualities that make Anacapa such a distinctive and inspiring school community. We believe the article does an excellent job of capturing the essence of our approach, and we encourage you to share it as we continue to build awareness and support for Anacapa’s growth and success now and in the future. |

If you haven’t done so already, please take a few minutes to complete the survey here: Family Interest Survey The survey should take no more than 5–7 minutes. This survey will give us important insights into:
* What drew your family to choose our school * What types of after-school programs and activities would your child be most interested in?
Your feedback will help us strengthen our community and create after-school opportunities that support both student growth and family needs.
Thank you for your time and valuable input!
