Dear Anacapa Families,
We’re excited to share some incredible news! We have received a generous match challenge donation from an Anacapa family in the amount of $10,000. This means that a family has pledged to match every dollar given by other donors up to $10,000 until December 31st, 2025, effectively doubling its impact.
This year's Anacapa Annual Fund goal is $50,000. This matching opportunity gives us the chance to raise $20,000 towards that goal.
This is a wonderful moment to support the impactful work of the Anacapa Annual Fund. Every contribution—big or small—brings us closer to unlocking this match. |

Why Donate? It's tax-deductible. Your gift improves technology, resources, and supports events that enrich student life. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Every contribution makes a difference - thank you for your support! |

Castles and Connections
Rain Plan: Have no fear, we have a plan for the rain. We’re prepared for whatever the weather throws our way. Check your inbox for an email from Mari detailing our rain plan so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
More about the trip: Our annual fall trip, named Castles and Connections, is designed to be much more than a sightseeing tour. Its purpose is to link each person to the stories of the local land, its history, and the Anacapa ethos, while weaving our own story individually and together.
The rigors of this coastal journey are intended to bring about student growth in various ways by providing conditions conducive to building broader friendships and strengthening their sense of community, as well as pushing personal boundaries with the supportive presence of their peers and teachers.
As part of the curriculum, we are already preparing for our visit to Hearst Castle. Students are making tangible connections between the enormous hilltop residence and two local buildings a block from the school. We took a walking tour of the Community Rec Center gym and The Julia office building, both designed by Julia Morgan (Hearst’s own architect) in order to understand her remarkable story as well as the architecture of the era on a local level before experiencing the San Simeon landmark. |

We are reaching out to gauge your interest in an optional Spring Break trip we'd like to offer.
Spring break this year is March 30th - April 4th, 2026. Edie has reached out to a contact she has with Edu Trips to have her work up an itinerary for a school visit to New York City. The all-inclusive itinerary is attached. Please take a look at it to see if your student might be interested in being part of this exciting adventure.
Currently, the Anacapa faculty who are committed to chaperone the trip are: Mari Talkin Edie Lanphar
We would also of course have a dedicated Edu Trips guide, who are wonderful. Other Anacapa faculty will likely be added as they work out their schedules. The proposed itinerary is currently based on 15 students, but we would need at least 10 students for the trip to run.
If this trip is a go, Edu Trips would need to secure our airfare, so the first payment of $500 per person would be due by October 14th.
If you think your student would be interested in participating, please respond to this email as soon as possible.
Financial aid may be available for those students who qualify.
If you would also be interested in helping to provide financial aid for students who otherwise might not be able to participate, please let me know.
I'm excited to be able to offer this "city trip" as another travel option for our students and their development as global citizens. |

Our middle school students have had an exciting week full of leadership, collaboration, and discovery! They delivered their School Senate speeches, demonstrating confidence and commitment to representing their peers. They also engaged with UCSB’s SciTrek program, exploring “Best Bread”—a hands-on investigation of how yeast generates energy and how conditions like sugar and temperature affect cellular respiration. UCSB mentors guided students through experiments and discussions, sparking thoughtful scientific exploration. In addition, students worked in small groups on the experimental design process, sharing their findings to build a holistic understanding of phenomena. We also went shopping in preparation for our Castles and Connections trip next week! Students are connecting their Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning projects to the trip, and they’ll use what they learn at Hearst Castle to create vivid settings, develop characters, and add clever red herrings to their original mystery stories. |

High School Highlights
High school students stepped into leadership this week with inspiring Student Senate speeches, showcasing their vision, confidence, and dedication to our school community. They also shared their creativity through a spoken word poetry presentation, bringing powerful words and performance to life. In preparation for next week’s Castles and Connections trip, students went shopping and helped with planning, taking on leadership roles for the entire school. The Outdoor Leadership elective has been especially focused, working hard behind the scenes to ensure a smooth and memorable experience for everyone.
This week, students in Biology were studying for a quiz covering their first unit topic of DNA. They worked collaboratively to make their own series of practice questions based on the topics covered, as well as looking back on other projects that had been worked on in class. |

If you haven’t done so already, please take a few minutes to complete the survey here: Family Interest Survey The survey should take no more than 5–7 minutes.
This survey will give us important insights into: * What drew your family to choose our school * What types of after-school programs and activities your child would be most interested in
Your feedback will help us strengthen our community and create after-school opportunities that support both student growth and family needs.
Thank you for your time and valuable input!
