Computer Chargers: We are in need of computer charger donations. If you have any computer chargers that you don’t need, please have your student give them to Claudia in the front office. Thank you!
Parents: A thank you to the parents and grandparents who joined us for this month’s Café Anacapa! It’s always such a pleasure to connect and get to know one another. We also appreciate the parents who signed up to bring coffee and morning treats for upcoming gatherings. If you’d like to support a future parent coffee, our sign-up sheet will be available soon. Castles and Connections
Our annual fall trip, named Castles and Connections, is designed to be much more than a sightseeing tour. Its purpose is to link each person to the stories of the local land, its history, and the Anacapa ethos, while weaving our own story individually and together.
The rigors of this coastal journey are intended to bring about student growth in various ways by providing conditions conducive to building broader friendships and strengthening their sense of community, as well as pushing personal boundaries with the supportive presence of their peers and teachers.
As part of the curriculum, we are already preparing for our visit to Hearst Castle. Students are making tangible connections between the enormous hilltop residence and two local buildings a block from the school. We took a walking tour of the Community Rec Center gym and The Julia office building, both designed by Julia Morgan (Hearst’s own architect) in order to understand her remarkable story as well as the architecture of the era on a local level before experiencing the San Simeon landmark.
Join us on Tuesday, October 7th at 7:30 pm for a Parent Meeting to review the Trip Handbook. Link for meeting: https://meet.google.com/vck-ntrp-ted?hs=224 |

| | | We are reaching out to gauge your interest in an optional Spring Break trip we'd like to offer.
Spring break this year is March 30th - April 4th, 2026. Edie has reached out to a contact she has with Edu Trips to have her work up an itinerary for a school visit to New York City. The all-inclusive itinerary is attached. Please take a look at it to see if your student might be interested in being part of this exciting adventure.
Currently, the Anacapa faculty who are committed to chaperone the trip are: Mari Talkin Edie Lanphar
We would also of course have a dedicated Edu Trips guide, who are wonderful. Other Anacapa faculty will likely be added as they work out their schedules. The proposed itinerary is currently based on 15 students, but we would need at least 10 students for the trip to run.
If this trip is a go, Edu Trips would need to secure our airfare, so the first payment of $500 per person would be due by October 14th.
If you think your student would be interested in participating, please respond to this email as soon as possible.
Financial aid may be available for those students who qualify.
If you would also be interested in helping to provide financial aid for students who otherwise might not be able to participate, please let me know.
I'm excited to be able to offer this "city trip" as another travel option for our students and their development as global citizens. |

| | | Middle School
Our middle schoolers had a packed week. Students presented impressive research on forensic science—covering real-world tools, investigative techniques, and career paths—and fielded thoughtful Q&A from classmates. They also rolled up their sleeves to plan meals and shopping lists for our upcoming San Simeon trip (budgeting, nutrition, and teamwork on full display). In ELA, they’re diving into Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Scarlet, comparing and contrasting the versions they’ve read and watched to sharpen analysis skills. And yes—the electives are a hit! From creative pursuits to active options, students are leaning in, trying new things, and building confidence. Proud of the focus, curiosity, and collaboration we’re seeing every day.
Here are the photos from the Middle School Mystery Trip - Remember that these photos are for your viewing only, please DO NOT share these photos on social media! Mystery Trip Photos
Middle School and High School - As part of our Wednesday Activities, we started our deep dive studying Julia Morgan who is the architect of Hearst Castle. We walked downtown to see two of the buildings she designed here in Santa Barbara. |

High School Highlights:
Our high school students are fully immersed in their classes and projects. Like the middle schoolers, they are also busy planning meals and shopping lists for our upcoming San Simeon trip—practicing real-life skills in organization and teamwork. Electives are in full swing, and the excitement is contagious—we especially love hearing the energy of the Rock Band as they rehearse and prepare their sets. It’s been a week filled with creativity, collaboration, and focus!
In History, Thomas is diligently pursuing his creative Renaissance project — using cardboard, super glue, and other art materials to create a scale model of the Duomo, which is feat of engineering that was executed by Filippo Brunelleschi in the mid-15th century to top the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, Italy.
Environmental Science students have completed their team project, "The Long Green Road" this week. This is a long-term display illustrating the history of the environmental movement from the Industrial Revolution to the present (see attached photo). They are excited to share this with their peers in the near future.
In addition, our class has launched the Ecosystem in a Bottle individual project with the first stage building and modeling complete. |

Health & Wellness at Anacapa: Hydration & Sleep
Staying healthy means taking care of both your body and your mind, and two of the most important (and often overlooked) habits are staying hydrated and getting enough sleep.
Why is Hydration so Important? Water fuels nearly every system in your body. It helps regulate temperature, carry nutrients to your cells, and keep your brain alert. Even mild dehydration can cause fatigue, headaches, or trouble focusing. A good rule of thumb is to drink water regularly throughout the day—before you feel thirsty. Carry a reusable water bottle and refill it often.
Who needs sleep? Quality sleep is just as important as good study habits. During sleep, your brain processes what you’ve learned, strengthens memory, and restores energy. Lack of sleep can affect your mood, attention, and even physical health. Teenagers should aim for 8–10 hours each night. Setting a consistent bedtime, limiting screens before bed, and creating a calm nighttime routine can make a huge difference.
At Anacapa, we want you to thrive, not just in academics, but in life. Prioritizing hydration and sleep gives you the energy, focus, and resilience to meet challenges, stay positive, and fully engage in everything you do.

In case you missed the email…
We have some exciting updates to share with you!
1. Big News – Anacapa is Growing!
It’s official: Anacapa will be adding 6th grade starting in the 2026–27 school year! We’re thrilled to expand and welcome younger students into our community. Cohorts in the Middle School (grades 6-8 beginning in the 26/27 school year) will still be multi-age, but each cohort (class) will still be capped at 10-12 students. Please help spread the word -- tell your friends and families who may be interested!
2. Thank You & Annual Fund
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Back-to-School Night! We shared our Annual Fund slideshow that evening, and if you weren’t able to see the slideshow, you can view it here: Annual Fund Slideshow The Annual Fund is vital to supporting programs and opportunities for our students. Please consider making a gift: Every contribution makes a difference - thank you for your support!
3. Trip Updates Spring Outdoor Adventure or Service Opportunity (Mar 24-27, 2026): We anticipate that this offering will be a 3-day trip/ day trips expeditions with two choices, an outdoors adventure and a volunteer/service option. More information to follow as plans are finalized.
We’re looking forward to an incredible year of learning, adventure, and community! |
|
| | | | If you haven’t done so already, please take a few minutes to complete the survey here: Family Interest Survey The survey should take no more than 5–7 minutes.
This survey will give us important insights into: * What drew your family to choose our school * What types of after-school programs and activities your child would be most interested in
Your feedback will help us strengthen our community and create after-school opportunities that support both student growth and family needs.
Thank you for your time and valuable input!
