| | | | | | | | At Anacapa, we believe in treating everyone with dignity, including ourselves, always doing our best, and fostering a culture of connection and collaboration.
Thank you, Sawyer, for consistently embodying the spirit of Anacapa through your leadership, character, and dedication. As an exceptional 12th-grade student, you’ve set a powerful example for your peers. Your actions speak louder than words and continue to inspire our entire community. |
| Sawyer - 12th Grade Student |
| | Sawyer is an incredibly resourceful leader who considers how best to help our community. He takes action and considers how that action will impact everyone in the group. He's thoughtful, honest, and makes Anacapa a better place every day. - Vicki Collins, History Teacher |
| Sawyer has been a standout student helping in the yearbook elective. His prior experience combined with his ongoing dedication and positive attitude have helped us a lot in designing this year's upcoming yearbook. - Brian Downie, Art Teacher |
| Sawyer is the kind of student who steps up before anyone even asks. When a challenge arises or help is needed, he’s the first to act and often the only one brave enough to lead the way. Incredibly resourceful, he finds solutions, inspires creativity, and rallies our school community with energy and heart. Whether it’s organizing fun events, creating excitement with prizes, or simply checking in on others, he consistently brings people together. His natural leadership, compassion, and dedication to making school a better place for everyone make him a mentor and role model for his peers. - Jacob Pepper, Dean of Students |
| Sawyer is such a joy to spend lunch with - I love hearing his stories and learning from him. He's also the ultimate egg hunt organizer! We will miss his big heart and fun spirit on campus next year. -Marine Revel, Administrator |
| Sawyer is a great role model for students, we appreciate his willingness to take the lead when it comes to planning events for the school. He's great to talk to and it's been a lot of fun getting to know him during hiking and other activities. - Diego Villarreal, Spanish Teacher |
| Sawyer is Anacapa's student leader, both in title and in spirit. As president of the student senate, he consistently dedicates his time to plan events that bring his peers together and build school spirit. A true servant leader, Sawyer is always looking for ways to support his classmates, whether it's lending a hand or offering discounted snacks from Ralph’s. Beyond our campus, Sawyer’s commitment to service is evident through his work with the Bucket Brigade, where he has gone above and beyond our expectations for community service. Even as senioritis creeps in, Sawyer remains focused and driven. Sawyer is fully engaged in lessons and advocates for himself when he needs support, demonstrating his dedication to finishing strong. - Brian Lunardi, Science Teacher |
| I’ve known Sawyer since he was in sixth grade, and though I haven’t taught him academically since eighth, I’ve had the joy of watching him grow into himself over the years. I still remember his Romeo and Juliet video project, his unforgettable singing at Songfest; Sawyer has always been a true original. And yet, some things about him haven’t changed a bit (thank goodness): his leadership and genuine curiosity, his kindness to everyone, his willingness to show up and help (often with a truck!), and his uncanny knack for finding a great deal. -Elyse Grossman, English Teacher |

| | | Branching Out: Finding Growth Beyond the Familiar Comforts
At Anacapa School, students thrive in a close-knit environment that fosters confidence, creativity, and connection. Yet with that comfort can sometimes come a tendency to stick with what’s familiar like favorite electives, known friend groups, tried-and-true routines. While there’s value in deepening existing passions, real growth often comes from branching out beyond the comfort zone.
Trying something new, especially something that feels a little uncertain, builds resilience, self-discovery, and the kind of growth mindset that students need in life beyond school. Fortunately, in Santa Barbara, the opportunities to explore are as limitless as the coastline and mountains that surround us.
Imagine paddle boarding in the harbor, learning to fall in the water (and laugh) with grace. Or joining a beginner’s trail running group that winds through the Douglas Preserve or Rattlesnake Canyon. These activities offer more than physical challenge, they offer perspective, reflection, and often, new friendships formed along the trail or after a shared adventure.
Other ideas? Surf lessons at Leadbetter Beach. A weekend rock climbing intro at the Santa Barbara Rock Gym. Volunteering at the local community garden while learning sustainable growing practices. Yoga on the bluffs above Arroyo Burro. Even something as simple as joining a local chess club or trying a theater workshop at Center Stage Theater can spark unexpected joy and growth.
Later this year, our students will take that spirit of exploration even further as we set sail aboard the Mystic Whaler for an unforgettable ocean experience, followed by a back-to-nature camping adventure in Sequoia National Park. These opportunities aren’t just field trips, they’re invitations to challenge comfort zones, embrace new skills, and create lifelong memories.
At Anacapa, we encourage students to dig deep, take risks, and explore new edges because that’s where growth lives.
Santa Barbara is our playground so let’s use it! |
