You're invited to our open house at the Rochin Adobe! |
|
Join us on Saturday, June 7th at El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park. Check out the Rochin Adobe (1856), a City Landmark located at 820 Santa Barbara Street, which is currently undergoing an archaeological excavation project in order to replace its deteriorating porch deck. This open house is a unique opportunity to see the archaeology of the Presidio preserved beneath the porch before the new deck is installed. Come by anytime between 11:00am and 2:00pm on June 7th to learn about the preservation work and the history of this fascinating building. We hope to see you there! |

As we near the end of the school year, we want to share some important updates with our school community, regarding changes to our faculty and staff for the 2025-26 school year. |
|
Departing Staff and Faculty |
|
| Our talented and passionate Science teacher, Brian Lunardi, will be moving on to pursue new opportunities in education. Brian has brought incredible energy, curiosity, and exploration to the science classroom and beyond, through his hiking elective. He has inspired many of our students to explore the wonders of science and the outdoors. We are also especially grateful for his leadership in the lunchtime Dungeons & Dragons club, where he created a fun and welcoming space for students to build community, creativity, and teamwork. |

We also say goodbye to Marine Revel, our dedicated school administrator, who will be returning to France to be with her family. Marine has been a cornerstone of our school's operations, always providing support with professionalism, warmth, and a deep commitment to our school’s mission. She has shown deep care toward all of our students and the daily functioning of our school, consistently stepping in wherever needed with grace and reliability. Her presence and contributions have made a lasting impact on our community.

| Edie Lanphar - Lead Teacher/ Director of Middle School
|
|
| We are excited to welcome Edie Lanphar to our faculty this fall! Edie is a passionate and dedicated educator with a background in psychology and education. Throughout her extensive career, she has focused on improving the lives and educational experiences of all children. Specifically, she has been a teacher from PK through 12th grade, a lecturer at a University, an author, a researcher, a School Principal, and a Director of Curriculum.
In her role as Director of Curriculum for over 10 years, Ms. Lanphar created a K-8 Reggio Emilia (student-centered) program, focusing on social-emotional learning and inquiry-based curriculum. She went on to extend that program to include a whole 4-year high school, where she helped administer a constructivist and progressive project-based curriculum across the disciplines. She has also presented at local, national, and international events for many years. She is also a mom and cat lover! |

Please join us in welcoming Sage Kimball to our faculty! With a rich background in performance and arts education, Sage brings creative energy and vision to Anacapa. She earned her BFA (Hons) in Musical Theater from La Salle College of the Arts in Singapore and trained at the renowned William Esper Studio in New York City. Over the past several years, she has taught in independent schools in Santa Barbara, directing full-scale productions, teaching across grade levels, and building spaces where students feel empowered to share their stories.
Sage’s approach to teaching is grounded in the belief that theater is a transformative space for self-expression and belonging. A passionate advocate for student voice, she fosters confidence, collaboration, and authentic artistic growth in every classroom and rehearsal. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Anacapa community and look forward to the creative opportunities she will inspire. |

| Michael Playford - Science / STEAM Teacher
|
|
| Anacapa is proud to introduce Michael Playford, an educator with a diverse teaching background and a passion for interdisciplinary learning. With degrees in both Science and Secondary Education from the University of Canberra, Michael has taught Chemistry, Biology, English, and interdisciplinary science in both Australia and Santa Barbara. Most recently, he led STEM and project-based learning for 5th–8th graders at a local independent school, where he also served as a lead teacher for grades 5 and 6.
Michael designs responsive, inquiry-driven learning experiences that connect subjects in meaningful ways and spark student curiosity. His teaching begins with understanding who his students are and builds from there to encourage exploration, critical thinking, and real-world connections. We’re thrilled to welcome Michael to the Anacapa community and look forward to the dynamic perspective he brings to our classrooms. |

Our campers arrived safely in Sequoia and everything is off to a great start! Spirits are high as students settle in and enjoy the natural beauty around them. Highlights so far include hearty meals, high ropes adventure, Lakefront activities, and learning about the National Park system. They've also enjoyed Gaga Ball, basketball, campfires, and their creative mask-making project. Today’s plans include rock climbing and archery. Check your email for more updates as the adventure continues throughout the week. |

New Music Video Release: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by Anacapa’s Rock Band, Monster
We’re excited to share the newly released music video featuring Anacapa’s very own rock band, Monster, performing a powerful rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
This video was filmed and produced by students Orion and Liam as part of the Yearbook elective. A special thank you goes to Liam for his exceptional dedication. He continued editing and refining the video outside of school hours to bring it to the next level.
Be sure to check it out and support our talented student musicians and creators! |
