End-of-the-Year Trip
June 8-12, 2002:
The group of Anacapa School students and teachers who made it all the way to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park pause for a photo opportunity on the summit.  Seen in the background is Clouds Rest, the summit of which Anacapa “bagged” in 1999.

Headmaster Gordon Sichi says one of his biggest satisfactions is meeting the challenges of “doing” school trips—making the initial arrangements, managing the logistics encountered on the trips, spending quality time away from campus with the students, and, of course, experiencing the satisfaction of bringing the students back safely to greet their parents—hopefully on time!

Summer 2000 Europe Trip:
After an alpine hike in the Lotschental Valley, Anacapa students and chaperones took a break to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Swiss Alps.

Overnight trips during the school year are very successful and typical of the kinds of trips we’ve come to enjoy.  Both the lower and upper schools traveled to Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite in September of 1999 for our beginning-of-the-year trip.  Each school had its own bus and campsite, but we shared many activities together, including a hike to the top of Clouds Rest.  Then after final exams in June, our end-of-the-year trip took us back to one of our students’ favorite spots—Big Sur.

In the 2000-2001 school year, our destination for the beginning-of-the-year trip was another favorite.  We returned to Little Harbor on Catalina Island September 24-28, 2000, for another great campout on this picturesque island.  We enjoyed four nights and five days at June Lake on the eastern side of the Sierra during our end-of-the-year trip in June 2001.

Yosemite National Park, September, 1999.

The 2001-2002 school year got off to a great start with a trip up the coast to El Capitan State Beach, where we kayaked, made sand castles, went horseback riding and hiking, and got to know each other better.  A few of us even got to tour the Reagan Ranch!

We don’t always know where we’ll be headed for the next year's trips, but it often happens that before we finish one trip, Gordon is already busy planning our next adventure.  That’s what it takes to keep the legacy of successful Anacapa trips alive.  Stay tuned!
