Anacapa’s Photography course fosters students’ love of photography, while giving them a foundation in aesthetic and technical skills that will improve their ability to communicate using visual language communication. In addition, an historical perspective is presented so that the students might gain appreciation for photography as an art form. Weekly assignments introduce camera functions and encourage students to pre-visualize and execute their creative ideas with technical precision. They learn to develop a strong sense of design in their images by using compositional elements and point of view manipulation. As well, students learn to discern quality and direction of light in order to manipulate it for the purposes of a strong image. Students spend time cataloguing and editing their digital images, and there is optional darkroom training available as well.
This class is approved for the fine arts requirement for admission to the University of California.
