Orientation  2009

Every year, Anacapa has a fun-filled, two-day orientation as we begin our school year soon after Labor Day.  The goal is for students to meet and mingle with each other, to be introduced to the faculty, and to generally have a good old time.  This year was especially exciting!

On Thursday morning, the Lower School students played some lively "get-to-know-you" games, were assigned lockers, and then had a brief run-through of their academic classes.  When the Upper School students arrived just before noon, an all-school scavenger hunt ensued, with students frantically searching for random items all over the campus.  After the Lower School students left at noon, the Upper Schoolers played name games and had their own run-through of academic classes, so that they would be prepared for the following week.

With the “business” side of orientation taken care of, the real fun began the next day!  Lower Schoolers and teachers arrived at Leadbetter in the morning for some fun games on the beach—volleyball name pass, the egg toss, a tug-of-war—as well as an invigorating and educational kayak tour a little ways up the coast.  The younger students then left, and the Upper Schoolers arrived for their session.  The Upper School tug-of-war was especially intense, as the outnumbered boys almost lost to the girls.  At the end of the day, Anacapa parents arrived for a delicious all-school family potluck.  It was a wonderful, friendly way to begin a great year!
