Food Day / Fairview Gardens 2008

On May 7th, Anacapa students spent the day learning about our food supply.  In the morning, we watched a documentary, The Future of Food, about crops grown with chemical fertilizers and pesticides and genetically modified foods.  After the film, we each planted vegetable and flower seeds in pony packs.  The highlight of the day was our trip to Fairview Gardens in Goleta.  Many of the experiences there were new to the students.  We had to opportunity to sample cherimoyas picked straight from the tree, feed goats, pet a two day old goat kid, collect eggs, hold chickens, and pick huge strawberries.  At the end of the tour, students visited the farm's stand and bought fruits, vegetables, and nuts to eat on the way home.
