It is a fantastic opportunity to be the headmaster and history teacher for The Anacapa School.  I especially like being able to personally participate in the academic growth of each student.  As younger students grow up to be seniors, they benefit from my first-hand knowledge of their progress over the years.


B.A., Political Science, UCSB, 1969. Life Credentials in both elementary and secondary education.  Gordon has almost 40 years of teaching experience in Santa Barbara , 11 years with the Goleta Union School District .  He assisted with the teaching of American Studies in Italy at the University of Milan and was a UC Extension lecturer on the Channel Islands .  In 1994, Gordon was awarded the George Washington Honor Medal for Educational Achievement by the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.  This national award recognized Gordon’s inspired and dedicated teaching and his promotion of informed and responsible citizenship.

Gordon has been an avid surfer since 1960 and is the instructor of Anacapa’s surfing class and sailing classes.  In addition, Gordon is a scuba diver and supervises Anacapa’s dive club.  Every summer he mountaineers with his family in the High Sierra.  Gordon and his wife Suzie have two sons.  Tom graduated from Anacapa in 1992 and from Haverford College in 1996.  Tom is married and is a medical student.  Their son Cielo graduated from Anacapa in 1995 and from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2003.  Cielo is also married and is a landscape designer.  Gordon has been the headmaster and a member of the Board of Trustees at Anacapa since the school’s founding in 1981.
