History
In
1981, Gordon Sichi joined Dr. Robert Everhart and a dedicated
group of Santa Barbara parents in founding a new independent high
school to serve students and families who wanted a high-quality
college preparatory education in a small school setting. A major
motivation of the founders was to establish a small and
personalized school.
This essential characteristic of The Anacapa School
continues to attract families to our school community today.
Nine years after its founding, the school added grades
seven and eight and changed its name from Anacapa High School to
The Anacapa School.
At
the time of the school’s founding, Dr. Everhart was a professor of
education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Gordon Sichi
was a sixth grade teacher with eleven years of experience in the Goleta
Union School District.
Currently, Dr. Everhart is dean of the School of Education at
Portland State University, and founding headmaster Gordon Sichi continues
to guide Anacapa, providing continuity in administrative leadership and
teaching. |
Campus
Located in the heart of
the Santa Barbara civic center, The Anacapa School provides students and
teachers easy access to the rich educational, historical, and cultural
resources of our local community. The
public library, art and history museums, the historic Presidio, city hall,
and the county courthouse and administrative offices are just a few blocks
from campus.

Anacapa also benefits from its proximity to
city recreational facilities including the downtown Carrillo Street gym,
Los Bańos swimming pool, tennis courts, athletic playing fields, parks,
and beaches.
