GS/BBMR Grape Stomp was a Huge Success!

This year’s Grape Stomp at the Fess Parker Winery took on an exciting new dimension. Barney Berglund, a devoted Anacapa board member and local cycling hero, died tragically from cancer on February 4, 2014. To honor Barney, Anacapa School sponsored a 50-mile ride to Tepusquet and a 30-mile ride to Sisquoc for his friends and other cyc139lists to enjoy. Three local cycling clubs came together for the 50-mile ride up the steep mountain road to Tepusquet. Special thanks goes to the Santa Barbara Bicycle Club, B4T9 Women’s Club, and Echelon Bike Club for their enthusiastic support of the BBMR, Barney Berglund Memorial Ride. The two rides left the winery bright and early Sunday morning, October 11th, and returned by noon to join other Grape Stomp guests for an afternoon of fun and festivities. Studio C played great music all afternoon, and everyone enjoyed excellent food and beverages in the cool shade under the beautiful Valley Oaks.

Anacapa’s first Barney Berglund Scholar.

All funds raised from the GS/BBMR go to support the Barney Berglund Memorial Scholarship Fund. This school year our very first Barney Scholar joined our seventh grade class, the first of many more to come in the years ahead!

Extra special thanks go to Eli Parker and the Fess Parker Winery for hosting the event and for donating all of the wine and the Grand Prize raffle item (a Two Night Stay at the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn & Spa), and to John Palminteri, our talented master of ceremonies. Grateful thanks to everyone on the Grape Stomp Committee, who worked so hard to make this event such a success and to committee chair, Alicia Kovary (Class of 2009), and to Dillon Yuhasz (Class of 2009), who shared the stage with John Palminteri.

We greatly appreciate the generous cash donations made by the following sponsors: Jim and Mary Berglund (Yellow Jersey), Chris and Julie Proctor (White Jersey), Jack and Marguerite Bianchi (White Jersey), and Nancy Paley (White Jersey).
